THE FLOWER GARDEN
Complete the planting of chrysanthe mums intended for the production ui show blooms. Nip the tops of any previously planted that are about Ifiu. high. The present is a busy time in plan'ing the different varieties of dahlias. Plant fibrous-rooted begonias belong ing to the semperflorens section and other dwarf-growing bedding plants. The present is a suitable time to bed out zinnias. Allow each plant sufficient room to branch out. Cclosias, portulacas, cosincas and amaranthus may be planted now. Bowseeds of balsams, sweet sultans and asters. Phlox Drummondii, French man golds, scarlet salvias and several othei summer-flowering seedlings may bo planted. Pick off all spent rose blooms daily. Stir the soil around the plants and spray for aphis or green-fly. Attend to stirring the surface soil at least once a week to benefit the plants, conserve the moisture and add to the appearance of the garden generally. Dig up and clean and store narcissus bulbs. If any are left in the ground lightly fork the surface around them Plant phlox, petunias or other shallowrooting annuals. Liliums are advancing in growth Mulch around them with some wellrotted manure and stake tho flower stems.
