Bananas With Bacon. The Americans roll half-lengths or wholcpceled bananas with strips oi bacon, and broil them under a flame or bake thorn in a hot oven untii the fruit is fender and the meat crisp. Baked bananas, too, arc popular. They are peeled, arranged in a shallow heatproof baking dish, ami sprinkled with lemon juice and one tablespoonful of sugar mixed with one-sixteenth of a teaspoonful of cinnamon. After they have been baked in a moderate oven, they are sprinkled with powdered sugar* and served hot.
The hole in the dome of the Pan theon in Rome, which is 27ft. across, is for lighting purposes, for which it is the sole source. It was a symbol that all worship of the gods should be performed in a building open to the vault of heaven.
