MARTON ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB The executive committee met on Thursday evening, there being present: Messrs E. C t Haddock (chairman), L. G. Morris, D. Portcous, F. Wood, J. C« Thomas, W. Hainer, A. Wav, A. T. Gatroll, E. Pickford, A. Todd, W. Hamer and S. Abel. Appreciation was recorded of the services rendered to the (dub for a number of ears as handicapper of cycling events by Air. A- Smart, and also that of Air. J. Clark as handicapper of pedestrian events. A letter was received from the Wan ganui Centre stating that in all probability the centre championships would bo held at Wanganui on February 18, 1933, also informing the club that the sub-centre championships would be offered to the Alarton Club. It was decided that in the event of tho championships being allocated to Marton that the; be accepted. A discussion took place as to whether it would be ail visable to hold the meeting on a Wednesday or Saturday parly in February and it was eventually decided that the matter bo left in the hands of the chairman and club delegates of the sub-centre and to report to a future meeting. It was decided to hold the first evening meeting on the Alarton Park on Alonday, December 5, at 7.30. The following programme has been drawn up for the first meeting of a series of five:— Running.—loo yards, 220 yards, and one mile handicaps. Cycling: Half, one and two miles handicaps. Ladies’ Races.—7s yards and 100 yards handicaps. Boys’ Races. —100 yards under 9 years, 100 yards under 15 and over 9 years. Boys’ cycle race. THE CIVIC THEATRE ‘ ‘ SENT 1 Al ENT A L B LOK E ’ ’ “Sentimental Bloke” will he screened at the Civic Theatre this afternoon and evening and also on Alonday evening. This is an Australian comedy of a man who longs, loves, doubts and finally weds the girl of his heart. It is a true slice of Australian life. The following strong cast is featured: Cecil Scott, Ray Fisher, Tai Ordell, Athol Tycr, Edna ATorecombc, Dora Alostyn, Keith Desmond, Les. Gordon, William Ralston, Barney Egan, William Carroll and Katie Towers. Another episode of the serial, “Spell of the Circus” will be shown at the matinee this afternoon only. ROSE AND FLOWER SHOW The receipts for the opening day of the above show showed an increase on those of the previous year and the show was in every respect a decided success. 'l'hc displays of roses, cut flowers ami shrubs of Air. R. T. C. Scott (Alarton) and Messrs F. Mason and Son (Fcilding) were a great attraction and greatly admired. Mr. Frank S. Mason capably carried out the onerous duties as judge of cut flowers and decorated classes; Air. J. Aliles, domestic; Air. Ironmonger (Hunterville), school section; Alcsdames L. Humphrey and F. Rankin wore the stewards in charge of cut flowers and decorative; Mrs. Davenport, domestic; Airs. Stewart, industrial. Additional prizes were won by Airs W. Hainer for most entries in the domestic section, and Aliss Al. W. Dcighton won Air. Paulding’s rose bowl for most points in the decorated section. RANGITIKEI MOTOR CYCLE CLUB A special genera] meeting of members of the Rangitikei Alotor Cycle Club will bo held in the Alarton Jockey Club’? rooms on Monday evening next at 3 o’clock for tho purpose of finalising arrangements for the holding of a motor cycle race meeting on the Marton Rae? course on Alonday, January 23 (Anniversary Day). Anyone interested in this sport is cordially invited to attend. NURSING DIVISION FLANNEL DANCE In order to assist the Alarton Ambulance Brigade and tho newly-lormed Nursing Division a flannel dance will be held in the New Empire Hall on I uesday, November 29. THE BASY SHOW The baby show at the Alarton Rose and Flower Show on Friday afternoon attracted a fair number of entrants in lhe throe vlasscs and they were a line lot. of bonny babies and even if they did not succeed in being placed among the winners they must have bceu a

groat joy to their mothers. There was also a good attendance of the general public and business was brisk at the different stalls and in the tearooms. Nurses Kenny and Munro acted as judges of the babies and Airs Dixon and Mrs J. Kendrick, jnr., officiated as stewards. The following decisions were received with favour by the audience: Under 6 months: Betty Hayes 1, John Fitt.ler 2. Also competed: George Feat, and Meryl Griffin. Under 12 months: Marie Armstrong ], Pauline Campbell and Allen Hercock tied for second place. Also competed: Tony Coleman, Michael Downey, Trevor Gray, and Peggy Andrews. Under 18 months: Ruth Alitchell and Pat Whale, tied for 1, David Robertson 3, and Nathalie Williams, h.c. Also competed: Glen Hogan, and Joyce Cairncross. The Rev. J. L. Alitchell, who arrived home from the Alcthodist Synod on Friday, announced the results. Evening’s Entertainment. The evening session was also well attended and this was instrumental m making the show a pronounced success from all points of view. Tho Marton Municipal Band rendered several selections outside the hall and also during the evening, on the stage. Professor W. Jackson, who is becoming a popular performer, again mystified the audience with his conjuring, sleight-of-hand tricks, and paper work, and received a hearty welcome. Several hat-trimming competitions were also held and proved very entertaining. GARDEN PARTY AT TURAKINA. A garden party, in aid of St. George ’» Church and the Public School, Turakina, will be held at Air H. Y. Lethbridge’s “Dalvey, ” Turakina, this a fternoon. RANGITIKEI CRICKET TO-DAY’S TEAMS. Tho following will represent Oid Boys’ Cricket Club in their match against Hnnterville, at Huntervillc, today: Ball, Wysocki. J. B. Johnstone, Nelson, Donnelly, G. A. Al*cIndoc, Duncan (2), Lambert.
