STOCK MARKETS

SALES OF THE WEEK The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand report, as under:— Saleyard entries are falling off as is usual at this period, most of the farmers being occupied with ensilage making, etc. I’addock business also is not very brisk at this time of the year. A few sales of two-tooth ewes and twotooth wethers off shears arc reported, and there is an enquiry for this class of sheep with quotations very hard to obtain. Two-tooth wethers are practically unobtainable throughout the province, and where sales have been made, 8s to 9s has been the order for good sheep. Two-tooth ewe sales are reported at 12s 6d to 13s 6d. A further rise in the price In the works schedule is reported, and it is understood that 4|d is obtainable for a lamb up to 361 b. The price for boner cattle also shows a slight appreciation during the week. Enquiry for weaner heifers has slackened off considerably. However, there are not many offering and the quality of those obtainable is usually only medium. Really first-class cattle an* difficult to obtain, but when offered make from £4 to£4 10s. Sales in the dairy section are practically nil and values are receding in sympathy with the lateness of the season. There is little difference in values offering for fat sheep and fat cattle. Sales of good fat cows and heifers have been make from £4 to £4 10s. Sales in the age sorts selling at £3 to £3 15s. In the sale yards supplies of good dairy sorts are available and meet competition at £2 10s to £3 10s. Fat wethers are not in over-supply, but the demand is slack and where sales have been made, Ils 6d to 12s 66 has been tho ruling price. Fat hoggets are scarce, and a ready sale is obtainable for these at 12s 6d to 15’. Fat ewes have been sold during the week at 6s 9d to Bs. There is a demand in the station cattle section for young heifers and good young empty cows. However, supplies are practically non-existent in the province and those being sold mostly come from outside centres. At our Waverley sale on Friday a small entry of both sheep, cattle and pigs came forward. Sound bulls, considering the lateness of the season, met with a ready sale at prices ranging from £o to £6 2s 6d; dairy cows realised £5, £5 10s to £5 15s; hold-over heifers, £2 Bs, £2 Ils to £2 17s; twoyear steers, 30s; boner cows, 10s to 15s; paddock cows, 20s; weaner pigs, 9s 6d to Ils 6d; ewes with b.f. lambs at foot, 14s.
