TRAVEL PREFERRED

TO FINISHING SCHOOL The tradition of sending daughters to finishing schools may soon give place to the more modern idea of a year or so spent in travel (remarks a writer in an English exchange). France, Switzerland and latterly Italy have all been favoured in turn by Mayfair mothers as the ideal countries in which to complete their daugh ters’ education before the debut a’ Court. But. gradually this idea is changing, and many young girls of to-day travel with their parents to such far-off countries as South Africa or India before they are properly out of the schoo l - room. In many cases a relative is asked to act as chaperone. The Con tinent is also favoured, but the time spent there is devoted to travel and private studies instead of being spent in a finishing school. A« an alternative, the governess chaperone is engaged. The ideal travelling companion for this purpose has been found by Airs. Harold Henderson and given the care ol her younger daughter. Daphne. Miss Daphne Henderson is to travel to Venice to perfect, her langu ages, stay there for six months or so. and then return by way of France.
