SWIMMING

WANGANUI CENTRE MEETING OF DELEGATES ELECTION OF OFFICERS Delegates from the various swimming clubs affiliated -with the Wanganui Centre gathered in Wanganui last night for the annual meeting and the election of officers, evincing considerable interest in the prospects for the 1932-33 season. Tho president, Mr. C. R. Tilley, was in tho chair. The followingclubs were represented by delegates:— Raetihi (Mr. C. R. Tilley. Wanganui Central (Mr. P. Dickson), Taihapo (Mr. A. Muller), Gonville (Mr. G. Craig). Avenue (Messrs Howatson and R. Harrison), and Marton (Mr. C. A. Palmer). The Girls’ College was represented by Mrs. Cleland, and the secretary, Mr. A. R. Byres was also present.

Tn presenting the annua! report Mr. Tilley mentioned the fact that the executive had experienced a difficult year but had managed to get through with a credit balance of receipts over expenditure, though there was still a balance owing to the New Zealand Council from the 1931 championships. Mr. Tillev also stated that the educational officer had reported issuing 54 merit certificates, 100 learners’ and .145 proficiency certificates, which the chairman considered a very satisfactory in dication of the centre’s work in encouraging swimming in the schools. The annual report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. F. Bristol: president, Mr. C. R. Tilley; vice-presidents, Messrs H. W. Cooper, R. Brown. PDickson, H. Tyler and F. Roydhouse, and Mesdames Cleland and Bonner; delegate to N.Z. Council, Mr. C. Bryant; executive committee, Mrs. Cleland. Messrs. C. Bullivant, G. Craig, A. Muller, C. R. Tilley, R. Harrison and C. A. Palmer; educational officer. Mr. H. Tvler: local officer, Mr. 0. S. Swan; handicapper, Mr. H. Tyler; hon. auditor, Mr. C. S. Swan: hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. R. Byres; assistant secretary. Mr. G. Craig. Tn recognition of Mr. H. W. Cooper’s services to swimming in Wanganui over a lengthy period it was decided to elect him an honorary life member of (ho centre. A lengthy discussion arose concerning ihe raising of funds to wipe off the centre’s indebtedness to the New Zealand Council and finallv a committee consisting of Messrs.
