WEDDINGS

LINWOOD—RUTHERFORD There was an interesting wedding on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, when Elsie Rutherford, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Rutherford, New Plymouth, and niece of Lord Rutherford of Nelson, Cambridge, England, to Campbell A. B. Linwood, eldest son of Mrs. A. Linwood, Dcvonport, Auckland, and the late Dr. Linwood. Archdeacon Gavin performed the ceremony. The church was decorated with pink azaleas and gelder roses. In an exquisite gown of ivory satin the bride entered the church with her father. Perfect fitting, the frock fell from the waistline into rich folds, and flaring from a corsage buckle of pearls at the back it formed a sweeping train. Tlig sleeves were long and close and the decolletage square cut. Her veil of Brussels net was clasped with a half circlet of orange buds across the back, and she carried an arm sheath of small lilies, parchment tinted rosebuds, lily of the valley and asparagus fern. A trio of bridesmaids in filmy frocks of buttercup yellow georgette awaited the bride in the church porch. They were Miss Helen Rutherford (sister of the bride), Miss Mary Harvey (Waverley) and Miss Jean Christie (Wanganui). Their frocks, with little bouffant sleeves, were trimmed with inchings of georgette at intervals on the skirts, the same dainty trimming being used on the bodices, giving a bolero effect. Narrow sashes of willow green velvet were worn at the waist, this shade also being used in the picture hats of old gold pineapple straw to form a knotted bow. The lace mittens toned with the frocks, and to complete a charming picture they carried bouquets of azalea mollis in sunset shading, mingled with shot silk roses and relieved with lime and gold foliage. Mr. Huia Honeyfield, Palmerston North, attended as best man. Mr. Merle Linwood, Auckland (the bridegroom’s brother), and Mr. W. L. Rutherford (brother of the bride) were groomsmen. Messrs. Len Hughes and Ken Fookes were ushers in the church. The reception was held at “Hill Crest,” Go ver Street, where masses of amber Iceland poppies, gold azalea mollis, rich red ranunculi and blue cineraria were arranged in the rooms.

Following the reception a dance was held the Tea House, Pukekura Park. Mrs. J. R. Rutherford, who received the guests, wore a becoming frock of black diagonal georgette, with neck yoke of black lace over flesh pink. The semi-fitting coatee was edged with kilting and her hat of black Ballibuntal straw was finished with a steel buckle. She held a bouquet of fuchsia toned azaleas and anemones, primulas and boronia, lightly touched with autumn foliage The bride left for the honeymoon wearing an ensemble of silk crepe serge, flocked with orange, in two shades of green The frock, in the lighter toning, was made with swathod neckline and military sleeves with the reverse of the material as a trimming. The coat, in the deeper shade of olive green, was three-quarter length, and she wore a smart straw hat to tone with green and orange patent trimming.
