RESCUER’S GALLANT ACT A gallant act by William Scott, of Skelsmergh Hall, near Kendal, England, ou his 72nd birthday saved the life of Mr. Richard Cottam, dairy farmer, of Skelsmergh Hall, when he was attacked by a bull. Mr. Cottam was leading the bull into a field when the animal rushed at him and knocked him down and gored him under the arm. His sister saw the enraged animal with her brother on the ground and shouted for help, whereupon Mr. Scott ran to the spot, and, seizing Mr. Cottam's walking stick, attacked the bull. The animal had got its horns caught in Mr. Cottam’a braces and had inflicted severe wounds, exposing the art erics under the arm. Mr. Cottam was unconscious when the animal had been beaten off, but recovered consciousness. He had about a score of stitches put in the wounds and was soon progressing favourably.
