CHINESE PIRATES

SEIZURE OF STEAMER PASSENGERS KIDNAPPED HONGKONG, Oct. 14. The Chinese-owned tseamcr Helikon, flying the British flag and commanded by Captain Lefevre, returned here after being in pirates’ hands for two days. While the vessel was on a voyage to Saigon, pirates who travelled as passengers seized control of the ship, forced °the officers into their cabins at the revolver point, and proceeded leisurely to loot the vessel ami rob the passengers, comprising three hundred Chinese and two women missionaries. The pirates eventually went ashore at Bias Bay, taking five Chinese passengers. There was a poignant scene when a Chinese passenger, intended to be. taken ashore, after a touching farewell to his daughter, jumped overboard, and was drowned, rather than submit to the hardships of captivity.
