KILLING THE SALES
AN S.PC.A. LETTER BOBBY CALE INDUSTRY TARANAKI FARMERS' PROTEST | Per Press Association. I . NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 14. Suggestions of cruelty during transport in the bobby calf industry, and that British consumers should not buy the meat, were contained in a letter sent to an English paper fur publication by the Taranaki branch of tho S.P.C.A. This fact was responsible for a spirited protest by the North Taranaki Farmers 5 Union, which to-day had representatives of the S.P.C.A. at a meeting. A demal was given of any cruelty by farmers and it was said that, the letter, if published, would have a disastrous effect on the bobby calf industry. The S.P.C.A. president said that the letter had already been posted and tho only thing he could suggest was that the union should also send a letter giving its viewpoint. The representatives of the two bodies agreed to confer.
