TE AWAMUTU HORSES
SEVERAL FAST GALLOPSThe Te Awamutu track next the rails was again available on Thursday morning for Avondale horses and while the going - was just a shade on the dead side, some good work was done. Lucidus and Sea Ruler were the outstanding gallopers. Arawa Rose (Pollard) had the advantage of Eager Rose (Mcßae) at the end of five furlongs in 1.5. This was an improvement On Arawa Rose’s part, but did not enhance Eager Rose’s Avondale prospects. Kanapa (Baker) worked easily over half a mile in 525. Kanapa looks bright and healthy and should strip well on Saturday. While working over a mile in 1.54 Trishna was anxious to increase the pace. He has put more vim into hi? work of late and looks an improved gelding. The best work of the morning anc the best gallop peen for some time ir Te Awamutu was done by Lucidus (Tuohey) and Sea Ruler (Cameron), who finished together at the end of six furlongs in 1.15 3-5. Lucidus is not booked to start on the first day, but if track form is repeated he will set the Mount Albert Handicap field a hard task on the second day. Sea Ruler should run prominently in any company and add to his consistent record. The Gay Shield—Persia colt (Stokes) got the best of the jump-off from the four furlong peg with Dinclli and recorded 50s for the distance. He has not done a great deal at headquarters, and it was a nice effort. Djnelli finished with him. going 495. She has more than the average speed and her two races to date should be to her advantage. Loombination moved lazily away from the seven furlongs post, and did not. go above threc-quarer pace until nicked up at I he* half-mile by Safe Bank and Erination. That half took 545. with Loombination doing it easily. Protomint had little trouble tn place seven furlongs behind him in 1.39.
