McKELVIE CUP SHOOT. Longburn and. Sandon. met on the range of the latter club on, Thursday night, Sandon retaining the trophy with a score of 1084 to the visitors’ 1073. ’Longburn had a useful lead of 7 points on the first range, G. Richardson, of the local team, was unlucky in letting a shot away for a miss. The visitors, however, failed to maintain their advantage and a good score of 550 by the home team in the second range brought their total to 1084. The visitors were entertained at supper at the conclusion of the shoot. Detailed scores were as follows: —
COMMUNITY SING. The community sing organised by the Sandon School Committee attracted a good crowd tG the hall on Tuesday night. Mr. J. Currie, as songleader, kept things going and a happy time was spent. Several old favourites were sung with much heartiness. An effort by the children was greeted with applause. A competition provided a pleasant break, vocal duet for children. The efforts of the children were received with applause and a popular vote resulted with Molly and Nelson Butler winning. Other items during the evening were rendered by Mrs. I. Edward (recitation). Mrs. D. Sanson (vocal solo), Miss Dwyer (vocal solo). Mr. E. Tnnnicliffe (vocal solo), Misses Fagan (instrumental duet), Misses Jean Forbes and Annie Bracken (stop dance), Miss Mavis Francis (piano solo), Sanson Brothers (humorous quartette’). Chorus sung by the Ngaio Choir, under the control of Mr. F. W. Tostevin, and a chorus by the School Choir. All of the items were well received and demands for recalls were numerous. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. E. Butler, T. Davey, Miss Fagan and Mr. G. Drew. The the close Mr. E. J. Bowater expressed the thanks of the committee to all who had assisted in making the evening such a success. THE LATE MR. H. BEHRENT. The passing away of the late Mr. IL Behrent, which occurred at his re sidencc, Makowhai, on Monday morning, has removed one of the early settlers of the Rongotea and Sandon dis tricts. The late Mr. Behrent for a number of years did a lot of contract ing work for the Manawatu county. Earling health -i few years ago compel led him to retire from active work and for a long time he has been practically < onfin.ed to his home. There are left, to mourn their loss, a widow and a grown-up family.
