ALLEGATION OF LIBEL
NORMAN SMITH AND PRESS.
Received Oct. 14, 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 14. The hearing was continued to-day uf the action in which Air. Norman Smith is claiming from Smith’s Weekly £20,000 damages for alleged libel in an article published on May 21. Plaintiff contends that he was publicly de nounced in this article as a coward in connection with his motor speed trials on the Ninety Mile Beach, New Zealand. Plaintiff was further cross-examined concerning the ten-mile record and the method of chocking the speeds on Smith’s car. Evidence taken on commission in New Zealand in support of plaintiff's case, relating chiefly to the condition of the beach when Smith was there, was read. The hearing was adjourned.
