LAWN TENNIS
ST. JOHN'S CLUB CONTINUED ACTIVITY. Plenty of practice for forthcoming matches has been obtained by members of the St. John’s Lawn Tennis Club, who have attended at the courts throughout the week. A number of new members have been elected but there are still vacancies for both juniors and seniors. The grass courts have been considerably improved as a result of the recent ’rain and will be opened at an early date, although with the seven asphalt courts there is really no urgency for St. John’s players. The following are some of the ladder matches played:— Airs. Alarshall beat Afiss Cox, 9—4. Alias Calver beat Aliss Chavannes, 9—l. Aliss Piper boat Aliss Bassett-Smith, (4—6. Udy beat Alarshall, 9—3. Brown beat Pennyfather, 9—7. Harris beat Afather, 9 —6. Welsh beat Jack, 9—B. Bassett-Smith beat. Beadle, 9—4. Dickie beat Spurdie, 9—7. J. Clarke beat I. Bassett, 9—7. The handicap matches lists are posted up at the pavilion, where entries will be received.
