THE WENDY HUT

OUR CHILDREN’S CORNER

My Dear Children,

To-day is a very sad meeting for us in our Land of Make-believe, because one, who was a power and a tower of strength to us in our efforts to relieve the lots of others less fortunate than ourselves, has passed over to the Creat Beyond. All of you will, 1 know, have read the many fine tributes paid to the memory of the late Mrs. Dexter, our Hut s good friend and our city's Cood Samaritan, who passed to her long rest so far away from a city and citizens she loved so Well. IChat a fine and noble example to others her life has been, never was an appeal made, but her heart, always so full of kindness and thought, ministered to her charges to the full. And, too, all children were first and foremost in our friend’s heart, it was ever their welfare she gave first thought to, and how the Cood Father, with whom she has gone to be, must have smiled upon his disciple of love. Truly a noble life spent in the service of all others. From our "Old Cran" I have received a tribute to our Huts friend and helper, and I surmise it is because "Old Cran knew how deeply I would feel the great blank Mrs. Dexter's passing has caused, not just m our clan, but in my own heart, that 1 gladly surrender my pen for an abler one than mine. I will read "Old Cran's" letter io you;— My Dear Wendy,— I am sure that with myself, your heart is feeling a great blank to-day. There is a “vacant chair" in Wendy Hut caused by the passing of one of our Hut’s most practical friends, Mrs. Dexter. She was the loving medium by which our humble efforts to help others, found their port of destination. She moved among us a citizeness who served. She set us the Divine example of continually doing good. She showed us when affliction assailed a courage and patience that are the heritage of Cod s Saints on Earth. There will be many a silent tear of sympathy shed to-day, with those mourners dear and near to her mother’s heart, and with them will co-mingle our own. But as we pass through this Talley of the Shadow in this Twilight Hour, we shall lift our eyes to the Heavens, and see the Trinity of Stars she herself has lit, beacons to guide us on in the Paths of Service, Courage and ’’’alienee. With your own remembrance, as our Leader, mine also, as — "OLD CRAN." < There, dears, a splendid tribute to one who has worked so hard in the cause of her less fortunate fellows, and in passing may I extend a Very deep and sincere sympathy to those who are left io mourn a great loss. I would like my own word of gratitude to be just, “true-blue." Let me see, cherubs, there is bound to be something for some of our causes entered in our Gnome of Gratitude's huge Ledger of Cood Deeds this Week, so I'll just take a peep. Yes, "Kerry" has sent a lovely dress for “Merry," and "Rosemary" has forwarded some woollen squares for our next quilt. Ido thank you, my two lies for your thoughtfulness and gifts. Well, lies o’ mine, time is passing and I must hurry away, so I will send Mu all my Warmest love and kisses from your affectionate, but saddened—-
