TAIHAPE

GOLF DANCE AND BRIDGE. Tastefully decorated with blue and gold streamers, and other adornments, the Three Stars Hall presented a gay scene on Thursday evening, on the occasion of a dance and bridge evening promoted by the Taihape Golf Club. Dr. D. L. Sinclair kindly placed his residence at the disposal of bridge players, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Prizes were awarded under the “hidden number” system the winners being Airs. L. C. Hawk (ladies) and Air. AV. R. Emerson (men). Airs. A. James was in charge and attended to all details of organisation with characteristic efficiency. At about 11-15 p.m. the bridge players repaired to the Three Stars Hall for supper. The music for the dance was supplied by the Tui Orchestra. Air. A. C. Joblin was M.C. The Dance Committee, consisting of Alessrs. W. H. Nicholls, F. C. Leahy, L. N. Bradley, J. P. Mortland and A. C. Joblin, did everything possible for the comfort and gaiety of patrons. The programme included a Alonte Carlo waltz and a spot waltz, the winners being as follows: —Alonte Carlo, Airs. F. Leighton (Aloawhango) and partner; spot waltz, Airs. Naylor and Mr. J. Infield. The supper arrangements were admirably handled by a ladies committee comprising Mesdames. H. M- Hay, T. C Kincaid, S. E. Addes, E. Al. Forsyth. R. C. Ongley, W. H. Nicholls, D. Neagle and Miss Etta Spooner. MAJESTIC THEATRE. “THE DEVIL TO PAY.” The ever-popular Ronald Colman in “The Devil to Pay,” will be screened at the Alajestic, at this afternoon s matinee at 1-45 o’clock, and to-night and Monday night Rt 8 o’clock. Here is a romance unlike anything vou have seen before. You’ll enjoy ‘yourself thoroughly watching th - adventures of this devil-may-care vagabond, in dross clothes, whoso gay escapades are the talk of the town. He nevtr takes things seriously—spends money like Croesus—in a romantic comedy from the pen of that witty author Frederick Lonsdale. . The “IDcvil to Pay” is a picture too good to miss.
