The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe will visit Christchurch next month. They will leave Wellington on August 5 and return on August 14. Miss J. S. Hetherington is a Wellington visitor to Wanganui. Mrs John Duncan, of Taihape, is visiting her mother, Mrs David Bell, Feilding. Mr and Mrs Stronach Paterson, of Wellington, were visitors to Wanganui this week. Mr and Mrs M. R. Stone, of Kimbolton, are visiting Wanganui. Mrs Barron arrived from Gisborne on Wednesday to attend the wedding of her brother and Miss Zillah Chapman. Mrs Geoffrey Arbon, who has been visiting Mrs H. V. Hammond, Somme Parade, returned last week-end to her home at Pohangina. Miss Kitty Wells is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs Tenncnt Wells, Castlecliff, and will return to Wellington at the week-end. Miss Janet Lilburne has returned to her home on St. John’s Hid, after a holiday spent with Mrs J. Lilburne, “Drysdale,” and with her sister, Mrs W. Britton, Taihape. Recent guests at the Chateau, Tongariro, have included the following from Wanganui, Mr Graeme Watson, Mr J. H. Russell, Mr L. Brinkman, and Mr and Mrs C. F. Dalgety (Mangaweka). Mrs G. Littlejohn, of Nagio, Wellington, arrived in Wanganui on Wednesday and is staying with her mother, Mrs J. Chapman, Fromont Street. Mrs J. A. Thomson, of Invercargill, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs 8. D. Lourie, Castlecliff, after motoring to Auckland, has now returned to Wellington en route to Southland. Lady Ali Shar, mother of H.H. the Aga Khan, was one who obtained honours on the King’s Birthday. She received the Imperial Order of the Crown of India; and Lady Jackson, wife of Sir Stanley Jackson, lately Governor of Bengal, was given the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal of the first class. News comes from England that the Overseas Guiders were invited to lunch a Pax Hill, • Lord and Lady BadenPowell’s house in Hampshire. They afterwards saw a film of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell’s visit to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Miss Cecil MacGregor was married on June 27 to Mr C. E. Carrington, son of Dean Carrington, late of Christchurch, New Zealand, and now of the Red House, Hildersham, which will be her future home in England. The wedding took place quietly at St. Barnabas’ Church, Addison Road, Lon don, the Rev. W. M. Bell (vicar) and the Very Rev. C. W. Carrington officiating. Mr E. C. Matthews was best man, and Miss M. Carrington bridesmaid. The Rev, D. B. MacGregor gave the bride away. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Janet Cameron, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Lilburn, St. John’s Hill, to Elwyn Mansell, youngest son of Mr E. Lloyd, St. John’s Hill. BRIDGE AFTERNOON Yesterday afternoon the members of the card circle of the Wanganui Croquet Club held their fortnightly bridge party in the Bowling Club’s pavilion. Players occupied eight tables an da very pleasant time was spent. Mrs R. Bond won the ladies’ prize and , Mr Cramond the gentleman’s. OBITUARY MRS C. H. CLINELARD The death occurred at the Auckland Hospital on Tuesday, of Mrs Julia Letitia Clinkard, wife of Mr C. IL Clinkard, M.P., of Rotorua. She was aged 70 years. Mrs Clinkard was born in England, and was the youngest daughter of the late Mr Hooper, of Warkworth. She camo to New Zealand with her parents 68 years ago and lived in the North of Auckland for many years, and more recently in the Rotorua district. In addition to her husband, Mrs Clinkard leaves five sons. Messrs C. H. Clinkard, barrister, of Wanganui; G. W. Clinkard. genera] manager for the Tourist ami Health Department. at Wellington; C. T.
