Malcolm was for many years associated with the Wellington City Council when the big drainage scheme was carried out through Mt. Victoria to Island Bay. After relinquishing his position as a clerk of works in the Capital City Air. Alalcolmn went to Auckland and became assistant city engineer, a position which he held fur 25 years, when he retired on superannuation. He was a most popular officer of the council, and was loved by all those who served under him, being conscientious, just, and of the highest integrity. A wife and two married daughters are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father.
