ROMAN WALL UNEARTHED

EXCAVATIONS AT FAMOUS SITE An important stage in the excavation of Roman remains in Monmouthshire has been reached, A Roman wall dating back to the second century has been unearthed by Government workmen near Caerwent. This wall consists of 450 feet of stonework, and is all that remains of the western wall of tho old Roman town there. Excavations of this famous Roman site will be continued in order that the whole of the Roman villa may be preserved for all time. The port wall had the south gate were excavated a few years ago. By a strange coincidence the work of excavation is going on alongside work of a much more modern kind. Within twenty to thirty yards the county council arc completing a splendid now by-pass road to accommodate the increase of traffic —the latest monument of modern civilisation.
