WEATHER FORECAST
General Situation.—A rather vigorous depression covers the North. Island, while a slight anti-cyclone is still centred over Otago. Pressure is high over Eastern Australia. Forecast-—Winds: Moderate to strong easterly to southerly, reaching gale force at times in and north of Cook Strait, but gradually moderating. Seas (N.Z. waters): Moderate south of Farewell Spit, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong south-east to south winds; seas heavy in the northern portion and rather rough to rough in the southern portion. Later winds and sea decreasing. Weather: Still cold and squally, with showers in most districts. Hail or snow in places, but mainly fair on the west coast of the South Island. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 5 hours 20 minutes. Rainfall, trace. Shade temperature, maximum 53 deg. Fahr., minimum 38 deg. Fahr. Phases of the Moon.—July: new moon, July 4; first quarter, July 11; full moon, July 18; last quarter, July 26.
