STORM STRIKES MARTON

TWO HOUSES UNROOFED MARTON, June 28. Marton was struck by something iu the nature of a cyclone on balm day evening at 5.45 o cluck, it pursued i a narrow course from west to cast along the southern outskirts of the town and did considerable damage, fwo houses in Canteen titreet, Marten .1 unction, were unroofed and sheds were blown down or damaged, while lenecs were flattened. The wind increased to cyclone force with terrifying suddenness while a thunderstorm broke loose. The thunder was deafening and the lightning brighter than has been seen here for years. Motorists had a trying time; as with each flash car lights flickered. But it later transpired that the main portion of the town had been letdown lightly. The cyclone gave vent to its real fury along a course which included Henderson’s Line, Kensington Road and Murton Junction. A hayshed in Henderson’s Line was blown down and a car shed at Mr. Tipling’i residence was damaged. Several fences and sheds suffered in Kensington Road; then in Canteen Street two houses occupied by Messrs. O. Gibbons and Miscall were completely unroofed and otherwise badly damaged. Rooling iron was carried in some cases for 20U yards, one sheet being found that distance away, driven into the ground for two feet. Other houses in the vicinity creaked ominously and residents were considerably perturbed. Fortunately all was comparatively calm again in a few minutes. Particularly atrocious weather obtained over the week-end and to-day shows no improvement.
