CANADIAN-FRENCH TRADE
Declaring that Canada was “committing commercial suicide,” M. Jules Carteron, the French Consul, who left Melbourne for France last week, said Canada needed wheat markets, but France could buy as well from Argentina. It is believed that M. Carteron was referring to a possible hitch in the renewal of the Franco-Canadian treaty, which will expire shortly. With the exception of the United Kingdom Australia is the largest contributor to the Canadian wino cellar for the year ended in April last. Australia. sent Canaria 31,377 gallons compared with the previous year. Australian and South African wines are displacing to a largo extent the wines of Portugal, Spain, and France in Canada.
