; “SHILLING, OR PARCEL” DRIVE A meeting of the Relief (Jlothin Committee was held on Friday aftei noon, Mr. F. Purnell presiding. Ther were present, Mesdames BurneP, Lad ley, Hunter, Barton. Gower, Watts Abbott, Miss Dixon and Rev. .1. L. Mitchell. Apologies were received from Rev B. D. Ashcroft, Rev. D. Melvor, Mrs Jas. Gorrie and Nurse Woolmer. Th resignation o t Mrs. Dickson was re ceived with regret and a vote o thanks for her services was placed oi record The meeting had been called, sai< • the chairman, to decide on the plan o operations for tho future. They ha- ’ been in operation for 12 month.- ' during which invaluable work habeen done, including a clothes drivi and a boots and shoes collection. Tin demands on the depot, had been s< great that they were out .of stocks ex cept for remnants. Of £46 6s 6d casl donated £39 Ids 4d had been exp. udec on material, so that there wa a ver small balance in hand. Unless some thing were done soon, the depot mus be closed down permanently. It wa; at present closed till further notice There had been many demands on th( public. Could they respond further? A discussion followed. A rcsolutioi to hold a drive was proposed by Mr Mitchell, seconded by Mrs. Gower am carried unanimously. Districts were allocated and it was decided to ask the Boy Scouts to co-operate. The drive will take place on Thursday, Juno ,30. GIFT EVENING AT TUTAENUI. A very happy gathering took place in tho Upper Tutaenui Hal] on Mon day last, when Miss L. Griffin was tended a gift evening prior to her marriage with Air Hugh Dawbin. There was a very large attendance of Tutaenui residents, Bonny Glen and Rata friends also attending. Excellent music for the dancing was rendered by Messrs C. Gibbs and Le Grove, and extras by Miss E. Jeffer son, and G. Franke. During the even ing Air. E. •Kelly, on behalf of those present, wished Aliss Griffin and Air. Dawbin happiness ami prosperity in the future, Air. Dawbin making a suitable reply. Miss Griffin was the recipient of a large number of useful gifts. (Dancing continued until 2 a.m. under tho able management of Messrs K. Kelly and J. Hawkins. EUCHRE AND DANCE AT TUTAENUI.
The Upper Tutaenui residents euchre party and dance, held in the local hall on Friday night, was patronised in fair nu’mbers, the ball in Alarton proving a very strong counter attraction. Mrs. G. Leach won tho fadies’ prize, while Mr.,o. Dornbush secured the men’s award after a playoff with Air. J. A. Jenkins. Mr. A. R. Potaka supplied the music for the dance, Air. R. Down contributing an extra. Dancing was continued, after supper until 1.30, Air. J. Jefferson acting as AI.C.
MU. 1.0.0. F. LOYAL MARTON LODGE. Tho fortnightly meeting of the above Lodge was held on Friday even ing, there being a full attendance. N.G. Bro. G. H. Denbow presided, being assisted by V.G. Sis. Oldfield. Reports showed that two members were on the sick list. Bro. J. C. 8. Bush, who was suffering from tho effects of a nasty spill from a bicycle is now making good progress. Correspondence included an intimation from the Grand Master, Bro. H. S. Al. Quigley, that he, in company with the Grand Secretary, Bro. Shrimpton, will probably be visiting the Wanganui Lodge on June 27 and inviting members to be present. Letters o.' recommendation were granted to Bro. E. L. Neumann, now on a visit to Australia, and Bro. W. I. Munro, now in Taihape. Arwmgenients for a debate with Toe H on July 15 were put. in hand, and a team of three members was selected to represent the Lodge. The District Secretary forwarded the Government Actuary’s reports on the valuation of the Lodge and district for the period ending on Decern ber, 1929. These showed that, the district had made good progress and that there was a very substantial surplus. The Marton Lodge also had pro grossed and was showing a surplus. The reports were read and explained by the secretary, who also answered several questions. Three new members were proposed. After Lodge closed, supper, cards
