WINTER SHOW
THE WANGANUI FIXTURE EXHIBITION NEXT WEEK. Preparations for the Wanganui Winter Show are now nearly completed and everything promises that th e fixture will be one of the best of recent years. When the show opens next Thursday, Wanganui will have a chance of seeing a first-class exhibition. Several features are being staged to create interest among the public, chief of these being the tug-of-war aud the sheep-dog trials. In the tug-of-war, teams are to comprise five men and one emergency and the total weight of the five men is not to exceed 57, including boots and clothing. No gloves will be allowed but leather under the arms 1 may be used. The winning team will receive a cash prize of £.12 10s and the runners-up, £5. » The dog trials will include short head and yarding, the. winner to be presented with a silver challenge cup donated by Mr Donald Ross, and £5. Three other prizes will also be presented. Another feature will bo the trades Maria Place at 1.45 on Saturday afternoon (June 25). A shield valued at, £lO 10s is to be presented to the best display, the winner to hold the trophy for 12 months. Meccano model builders will have a chance to display their prowess in a competition. Visits are to be paid by the country schools on Friday, and a trip is to be made to the Woollen Mills at Aramoho, and the Southern Cross Biscuit Factory. Free admission will be allowed children to the showgrounds if they are accompanied by their teachers.
