H.M.S. DUNEDIN

RE .UNITING TO DOMINION LONDON, May 27. Captain Al. J. C. De Aleric will command the recommissioned Dunedin after a year’s refit at Chatham, costing £129,000. The Dunedin leaves Shcerncs*i on June 6 for Auckland, via Panama.

Captain M. J. C. de Aleric was born in .1887, a son of the late Fleet-Sur-geon E. V. de Meric. He married in 1911 Aliss Carmen Pengilly, eldest daughter of the Alexander Pengilly, and they have one son and one daughter.

The Diomede was Captain de Merle’s • first command as a captain. He brought her to New Zealand in 1930 after her refit. He was profnoted in December. 1929, while serving on the staff of the Second Sea'Lord. During the war Captain do Meric commanded torpedo boat No. 81 and destroyers Wolverine, Orpheus and Achates. He served in tho Royal yacht Victoria and Albert in 1921-24, and was promoted to commander of the Versatile, after which he was employed at the Admiralty. Captain de Merie took the Dunedin to England for its refit in Apri’, 1931.

The Dunedin will come to New Zea land via Gibraltar, Madeira, Jamaica. Panama, the Galapagos. Nukuhiva and Bora Bora. She is scheduled to reach Auckland early in August.
