SUNDAY EXCURSIONISTS

NO LANDING AT BOURNEMOUTH. The town council at Bournemouth in England, recently refused to grant permission for Sunday steamer excursionists from Brighton to land at the resort. When an application on the subject was read an alderman opposed it on the ground that it was the desire of the council to keep up the tone of the Sunday in Bournemouth. “I do not mean a puritanical tone,” he said, •' ‘ but ‘ the tone. ’ ’ ’ Another member in moving that the question be referred back, asked: “Are wo trying to ‘kid’ ourselves that we in Bournemouth are different from other people?” He mentioned that Sunday steamer trips leave Bournemouth Pier. What reason could there be for refusing to allow excursionists to land? Sunday train excursionists also came into the town. A third member described the re- i fusal as stupid.
