General Situation.—A slight anti-cyclone is passing just south of New Zealand. A cyclonic depression is centred south of Norfolk Island. Forecast—Winds: South-oast to north-east, in places light to moderate generally, but freshening in the north. Seas (N.Z. waters): Smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-east to north-east windj, freshening in the northern portion, with rising seas, moderate in southern portion with smooth to moderate seas. Weather: Cloudy and muggy, with mist or fog in places, rain setting in over North Auckland and extending southwards; scattered, and in places thunder; also in more southern districts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, Wanganui, report for 24 hours up to 6 p.m. yesterday: Shade temperature, maximum 71 deg. Fahr; minimum 60 deg. Fahr. Rainfall, trace. Phases of the Moon.—February: New Moon February 7; first quarter February 15; Full Moon February 22; last quarter February 29.
