PATEA
VALEDICTORY Once more the congregation of St. Patrick's Church has had to farewell its priest, Father Harnett having been transferred to Masterton. Last Sunday representatives of the congregation waited on Father Harnett to wish him God speed and all happiness in the future. Mr. D. Hurley spoke on behalf of the country settlers, while Mr. George Williams represented the people if Patea. Mr. Williams said that the whole parish were very sorry to loose Father Harnett, and he thought that those who would miss him most would be the sick in hospital and home. To these he had always had ready sympathy and care. Mr. Williams then presented Father Harnett with a well-filled wallet, for which Father Harnett thanked his congregation in a feeling manner. TENNIS Mrs. Baker will be Patea’s only representative player in the team to play SVanganui on Saturday in the Taranaki Wanganui match. Championship games proceed, members taking an increasing interest in the results. It was a long time before any matches were played after the draw had ben made, but now matches are being played almost every day.
