WANGANUI GARRISON BAND.
r pHE decision having been made to send the Wanganui Garrison Band to compete at the Band Contest at Wellington, it is desirable that the decision be pursued resolutely. The Garrison Band has earned a great reputation since it was first organised in 1887 under the direction of Mr. James Crichton. During his 21 years of conductorship it was prominently successful. On his retirement in 1908 he was succeeded by Mr. Albert Wade. Under' these bandmasters over 50 prizes were won, more than half of which were firsts, besides many cups and medals for soloists, and over £3OOO in cash prizes. Mr. Watson conducted the band since 1925 and at the Dunedin ExE’’.' 'sir in 1926 the band won the first test, and lost the championship by only a narrow margin. It is natural that this band should again desire to compete and in view of their excellent public service they deserve the support necessary to enable the bandsmen to attend the contest.
