HIMALAYAN CLIMBERS
ASCENT OF MT. NANGA PARBAT. SMYTHE FORMING EXPEDITION. Received Jan. 15, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 14. The Times says that Mr. Smythe, conqueror of Mount Kamet, is forming an expedition to climb Nanga I-'arbat, 26,624 feet, the sixth highest mountain in the world, and dominating the western Himalayas. The Times recalls the tragedy of 1895, when the alpinist Mummery, after reaching 20,000 feet, was Idled by an avalanche, with two Gurkhas, who were crossing a neighbouring pass.
