LOWER FEES

AMERICAN BASEBALL CHAMPION. BABE RUTH FEELS DEPRESSION. Received Jan. 15, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 14. There are a variety of proofs that the depression has struck America. Babe Ruth to-day was returned unsigned, his contract calling for 70,000 dollars as payment for his 1932 baseball services. He said that a 10,000 dollar reduction under last year’s payment would be acceptable, but he must have a two-year contract. The baseball club management recently declared: “Never again would there be a ball player worth 80,000 dollars.” An amicable adjustment, however, is expected.
