IMMIGRATION MATRON
The tang of the sea agrees with Miss A. Dale, formerly immigration matron to the New Zealand Government, who reached Wellington by the Tainui thia week. Miss Dale is on a pleasure trip this time, and well return to England by the Tainui. “This is my fiftyseventh trip to New Zealand, and, by a coincidence, it is 50 years ago to-day since T first arrived in the country by the sailing ship Sukar. I suppose I have spent almost fifty years travelling around.” Miss Dale said she had been doing New Zealand Government work for about 21 years, during which time she had been matron in charge of probably 2000 domestic servants who had come out to New Zealand. She is looking forward to meeting some of those girls while in the Dominion. Miss Dale retired from the position of senior Government matron five years ago, and lives at Southsca, in the .South of England. “I have settled there,” she said, “and it suits me perfectly in England.” Miss Dale was for a long period on the Shaw, Savill liner lonic, on which she made 35 round trips to Now Zealand, and she has known some of the Tainui’s officers for years. She said that the present trip was mainly a health trip.
