CRICKET IN HOLLYWOOD
PLAYED BY ENGLISH. Cricket has arrived in Hollywood, being taken up enthusiastically by the “English Colony.” It has been begun under the leadership of Aubrey Smith, and up to date the Hollywood Cricket Club has 60 members. Ronald Colman and P. G. Wodehouse are vice-presidents, and prominent among the members are Clive Brook, H. B. Warner, Reginald Denny, Jameson Thomas, David Torrance, Norman Seagram, A. E. Anson, Ivan Simpson, Anthony Bushell (of Cambridge and the Thespians), Boris Karloff (Uppingham), Murray Kinnell and Pat Somerset. “Round-the-Corner Smith,” founder of the club, years ago captained the first team representing England to sail i to South Africa, in 1888-89. Desmond Roberts is captain. Mr. Roberts arrived in Hollywood a year ago. In London he was a member of the M.C.C. In 1920 he went to America with the Incogniti and played against Canada and Philadalphia.
Gary Cooper, having completed his role with Claudette Colbert in “His Woman,” has left the Paramount New York studios for Italy and Northern Africa.
