THE ARBITRATION ACT
PREMIER’S STATEMENT [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. Interviewed the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes said: “We have no intention of altering or removing any part of the Arbitration Act that is for the good of the workers, but in the opinion of the Government the time has come when the harassing rules and regulations of the Act will in some measure have to be altered. “We have come tq tho time W’hen the keeping down of unemployment is of the greatest importance. There is no doubt that tho restrictions of the Act have been responsible for much of our trouble. Mr. Holland hart said that the Coalition would do away with all awards and agreements and that the labourer would be lowered down to serfdom. It is intended merely to alter the Arbitration Act in so far as it is absolutely necessary.”
