RAETIHI

GENERAL Rev. F. C. Long, M.A., general secretary of the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions, paid a visit to this district last week-end and conducted services. Mr. Long was for some years a missionary in India. Rev. B. Harris, of Taumarunui, was the preacher at the Methodist Church at Raetihi and Ohakune last Sunday. Favourable comment has been made in connection with the nomination of Mr. Wackrow. Coalition candidate. His nominators were all chairmen of local bodies and included C. A. Bates Mayor of Taumarunui, Walter Harris, Mayor of Raetihi. C. J. Goldfinch, Mayor of Ohakune, C. H. Ball, chairman of the Waimarino County Council, C. Stanton, chairman of the Taumarunui County Council, and tne chairman of the Manunui Town Board. There will be over 85 polling booths scattered throughout the electorate. BOY SCOUTS On Monday night Assistant Scoutmaster Allan Anderson, was presented with his warrant of office. Mr. W. H. Sandford, chairman of committee, made the presentation and there were also present Scoutmaster White, in charge, Scout Mover Nichols, of the Henderson troop and Mr. Jack, secret an of the committee. Mr. Sandford said he had just received the warrant from District Commissioner Christie, of Wanganui, who asked him to present it to Scoutmaster Anderson. He had not been able to let the other members of the committee know or else he was sure they would have been present. On behalf of tho commissioner and the committee of management he congratulated Scoutmaster Anderson on his appointment He wished the Scoutmaster every success. It was a community service. Ho urged the boys to take every advantage of the opportunity to gain knowledge. At the commissioner’s request he reminded the Scouts of the jam boree to be held near Fcilding at Christmas time. The commissioner hoped to see every member of the Rae tihi troop at the camp. He promised them they would never forget it. He hoped they were saving up their money for the fare. etc. Fuller particulars would be given later. On the call of Scout Leader J. Ward three ringing cheers were given for the assistant Scoutmaster. Scout Rover Nichols conveyed the greetings from the Henderson troop and assisted with the patrol work. He advised as many as possibly could to

earn the money necessary to take them to the jamboree. It was well worth while. The fun and information gathered was easily worth the expenses. GOLF At the annual meeting of the Waimarino Golf Club there were 42 present. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year: President Mr. R. Hunger; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. R. Barber and R. B. Davies; captain, Mr. A. E. Urwin; secretary-trea-surer, Mr. A. J. Windle; committee, Messrs. J. A. Blyth, G. Brown, W. J. Feltham, A. G. Johns, R. J. Love W. G. McDowell, 11. H. Newell, and J. B. Matt; hon. auditor, Mr. R. Jennings. On the motion of Mrs. Cracroft-Wil-son it was decided to form a ladies’ committee. The functions were made executive with regard to social ae'/.-j--ties, but advisory in other matters. Mcsdames A. W.’ Ashwell, Gilchrist. Hunger, Cracroft-Wilsou, and Miss 1 rwin were elected the committee. The meeting recommended that steps be taken to inaugurate summer golf. Cards and dancing followed 'the business meeting.
