“DAYS OF CONFUSION”

CHURCH REMAINS UNSHAKEN. ‘‘We are living in great days,” said Mr. F. B. Barber, in his address welcoming the Wanganui District Methodist Synod, ” —days in which there is much mental confusion both within and without the Church. Much of the confusion that is without has made its- If felt within the Church and in the minds of many it is felt that the Church is in the melting pot. Many of our old ideas are disappearing but' the fundamental truths and foundation of our Church remain unshaken. It is often said that the Church is dead but in the name of the Methodists of Wanganui I affirm that the Church is alive and never was more active than to-day. Thoughtful men and honourable men in our public life feel the need for the Divine message for these times a”d earnestly seek to realise the sympathetic message of Christ. There is a growing need for the laymen to get into closer touch with their ministerial brethren and in extending a welcome ;o the members of the synod it is felt that there is an opportunity for us to p--t into closer co-operation, to understand the needs and problems of the Church and laity. It is earnestly hoped that from these meetings there will go forth into our daily lives a deep r Christian influence that we will carry to our problems the spirit of our Master and that the message of the Church may be more effectively heard and understood.”
