BOYS LEAVING SCHOOL
•EMPLOYMENT PROBLEM ALTERED PERIOD ADVOCATED AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. The education authorities are to be asked by the Future Farmers’ Committee to end the school year both for primary and secondary schools at the conclusion of the second term. This decision was reached by the committee at a meeting yesterday, '.rhe chairman, Mr N. G. Gribble, presided. Dr E. N. Neale said the demand for boys in New Zealand appeared to be strongest in August, September and October. After the New Year the demand decreased, with the result that under the present educational arrangement boys leaving school remained without employment for some time. Mr W. M. Kay, representing the Headmasters’ Association, stated that tho matter was one of importance. The chairman drew attention to the remarks of the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister in charge of Unemployment, in outlining the policy of the Unemployment Board, and the meeting decided to ask the Cabinet to give prominence to the necessity for directing tho attention of boys to work in the country, as it was considered that for some time opportunities in the main centres would be very limited.
