JUBILEE BALL

FESTIVITY AT PATEA

At the Jubilee Ball held at Patea on Wednesday night there were present over 350 people, among them visitors from districts from New Plymouth to Wanganui.

■ The duties of Al.’sC. were most ably | carried out by Messrs. F. Locker, R. W. : Haddow and F. Ainslcy. It is estii mated that as a result of the ball, the jubilee committee will benefit to the I extent of nearly £lOO, which will help considerably in defraying the expenses of the week’s festivities. Although, as might be expected, the ball was mainly attended by the

younger generation, there were among the dancers several of the old identities. These entered into the spirit of I fund with all the fervour that they | have shown throughout the Jubilee fes- | tivitics. It did not take much to in ; duce these old people to step to the

i enticing music with the others, and j among those who were seen on the i floor were Air. and Airs. A. T. ChristenI sen, and Airs Jacomb, who is the oldest. : resident of Patea.

Altogether, the ball was an unqualified success, both socially and financially, and the committee arc to be congratulated on this crowning of their efforts. At supper time squeakers wore handed out, and these, with the addition of several caps which were in evidence, gave an air of carnival to the proceedings.
