MASTERTON RACING CLUB

ONE-DAY SPRING MEETING I BRIEF REVIEW OF THE CARD i (By “Kestrel.”) i Some weeks ago it was announced j that the Mastertoil Racing Club would i not hold a spring meeting, with the reI suit that there was some juggling with dates by other chibs in an endeavour I to obtain a better chance for their rei spective fixtures. A few days later the Masterton committee decided to go on with a spring fixture but confine it to one day. This will take place to-nior-row, and the club may te accounted fortunate to have such satisfactory fields engaged in the various events on a programme for which the total offered in stake money is only £6OO. A number of the horses were seen out at Otaki and that may enable investors to obtain a good idea of the form.

The juveniles will be seen out in the Nursery Handicap, there being fourteen engaged. Of these Prince Pombal, Michael Angele and Mister Quex appear likely to do best. The largest field of the day is set down to contest the Maiden Stakes, and a trio that may be in the picture are Zephyrus, Kilstar and Chief Clerk. Full Mark appears to dominate the situation in the High-Weight Handicap, though Appledore and DaintyWays may be found dangerous. Over the seven furlongs of the Lansdowne Handicap Projection, Cluny and Tho Sun should appeal. Seven are engaged in the principal event, the Masterton Handicap, and Ephialtes, Spearful and Imateagirl are the trio sorted out as likely to be supported.

Ben Hur heads the list in the Lawn Handicap and he may prove capable of accounting for Jbhnedh and Thrasher. The Grandstand Handicap field num bers seven, and recent form points to the chances of Royal Routine, Tobaccoland and Malayan.

In the Electric Handicap Chief Cook may do best, though the topweight is set to concede a lot of weight to False Scent and Miladi, a pair that may give him trouble.
