“Hampden." ~

The final meeting of the Management Committee of the Wanganui lootball Association was held on Monday night, when a number of reports were received in connection with the activities of the season.

A letter was receive 1 from tho Scottish Society accepting, on behalf of the chief, Mr F. Rose, the invitation to present the trophies to tho winning teams at tho Thistle Club’s dance next Wednesday night. Mr J. J. Scott reported on the Schools’ Association function, remarking that it gave the members of the Management Committee much pleasure to note the large number of boys interested in soccer.

A report concerning the reception given by the City Council to a deputation regarding ground charges was also furnished by Mr Scott.

A very comprehensive statement of the association ’s finances was furnished by tho treasurer, all the various activities being dealt with. Various items regarding the schoolboys’ trip to Auckland were given. The credit balance in the A. Walker Fund was reported to be £l4 Bs. A committee comprising Messrs Woodham, Herd and Ward, together with the secretary and the treasurer, was appointed to deal with association business during the “off” season. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Scott paid a tribute to the loyal support given him by members, whom he thanked for their attendance at tho meetings. Saturday's Game The final game of the season wai played on Saturday in glorious weather. By their victory over Thistle by five goals to four, Eastbrooke retain the Charity Cup for a-other term. The game, while not brilliant, was lull of good clean football. Had Thistle taken* advantage of their opportunities there would have been no need for the extra time. The introduction, of Killeen, who was practically fresh, into tho forward jine in the extra spell, turned the scale in favour of ’Brooke. For the winners Killeen, while in goal, did all that was asked of him i.i a business-like manner. Wood was the best back on view. Clapham played a sound game. Of the halves, Jones was probably the best, although ho was closely followed by Garner and Maxey. Spence was the brains or the forward line, which was rather disjointed. Gray made the most ground and if this player had only crossed the ball he would have been very dangerous. Upton did very little with the exception of scoring two goals. For a young player Taylor did exceptionally well. With more experience he will be a very useful player. His goal was very well taken. Clapham, on the extreme left, was just his usual. He put across some nice centres. For Thistle Walker brought off some clever saves, although not so brilliant as on tho previous Saturday. Tasker was the better of the two backs, although Mclntyre played well till he went lame. Little played a good game at half, but was too much on the defensive. McLay was not by any means on his usual game, while Dickson, nursing a wounded leg, was not risking too much. Of the forwards Barbour was a disappointment after his display the previous Saturday, while his partner, i'izard, was an improvement on his last display. He seemed to be the one forward who knew where the goal lay. Heath, though playing hard, was not too successful with his hsooting. Thomson is a much-improved player and was seen back covering up Dickson as well* as purveying for Bain. It might have paid had he gone through on his own some of the times. Bain, while playing well in the open, got through on many occasions, but he seemed to have left his shooting coots at home. It was a good game and a fitting close to the season. Junior Game Tho final of the Boston Cup was played on Saturday when Woollen Mills defeated Athletic juniors by six goals to one. This was a very onesided game, the younger and inexperienced Athletic juniors being no match for the Mills. Barron, the Athletic goalkeeper, although beaten, played a good game, and would bo a hard man to beat with a better defence in front of him. Barron, at right back, was also very good, but had too much to do as his partner was too small for his opponents. Dear, Dalziell and the outside right, were the only other players who could stand up to the Mills. The Mills were well served in all divisions, but to single out any player in face of the weak opposition would be useless. It is a pity these boys cannot get stronger opposition to bring out what -is in them. Where the Trophies Go Tho various trophies played for during the season have been well scattered. The shield competition was won by K.P.’s after a deciding game. The Association Cup was won by Thistle after a deciding game. The Charity Cup was won by Eastbrooke. This shows the evenness of the various clubs, which makes the game all the more interesting. The dance promoted by tho Thistle Club for the A. Walker Benefit Fund takes place ou Wednesday next. As the trophies won are to be presented on that night it is expected that a good representation of all the clubs will bb in evidence. It is reported that the tickets are meeting a brisk demand.
