PETROL PRICE INCREASE

RISE IN WANGANUI. As from yesterday the price of petrol in Wanganui was 2s 3d a gallon for first grade and 2s 2d for second. This represented the twopence put on by thi oil companies in consequence of the increased rate of duty, which becamt operative following presentation of tha Supplementary Budget to Parliament. A representative of the retail dealers in petrol stated yesterday that the rate of exchange had thrown a heavy burden on the oil companies. Ho estimated that it would total 3d a None of that had been passed on to th® public* He pointed out, also, that so far as Wanganui was concerned the last increase in tax on petrol had not been passed on. Ono penny of it had been taken by the companies and the other penny by the retailer.
