TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB The annual meeting of the Waverley Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was held on Thursday last, Dr P. V. Graves presiding. Apologies for non-atten-dance were received from several members. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The annual report disclosed that the membc.ship of the club had decreased slightly. The finances of the club were in a satisfactory position, the balance-sheet showing a credit of £lB 10s lid. During the season considerable improvements of a permanent nature were effected in respect of both the grounds and pavilion. The election of officers for tha ensuing season resulted as follows: President, Dr Graves; vice-oraside-ts, Miss I. Cheyne and M. Bowden; secretary and treasurer, J. H. Cowdell; general committee, Mrs Pepper, Miss Beer, Messrs D. Craig, Rogers, E. Dickie, Hopkinson and A. Dickie; grounds committee, Messrs A. Diakie, J. H. Cow dell and D. Craig; club captain, W. A. Dickie; vice-captain, M. D. Craig; hon. auditor, Mr E. H. Graham; delegate to Taranaki Association, Mr J. C. Nicholson; croquet committee, Misses Cheyne, Cleary, and McMeckin and Mesdai os Barrow, R. P. Palmer, Currie, Eames, Metcalfe and Pepper; ladder committee, Misses Beer and Dixon and Messrs A. Dickie and Cowdell; ladies’ tea committee, Mrs Barrow and Miss Mathieson. Mr Muir was made a life member of the club. Opening day was fixed for November 7. After considerable discussion it was decided to reduce the subscriptions for the season to men £2, ladies £1 7s 6d, juniors’ subscriptions being half these amounts. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. J. Dickie for his assistance and advice in connection with the topdressing of the courts. GOLF Hawera Ladies’ Club visited Waverley last Saturday, when a most enjoyable mat*ch was played. Four-ball was the order of the afternoon, play commencing shortly after 1.30 p.m. Waver ley proved the winners by 5 games to 3; two being halves. The Waverley Men’s Club visited Beafield for the return match of the season. Results of the ladies’ match are as follow, Hawera ladies being mentioned first : Misses Burgess and Richardson won >from Miss McMeekin and Mrs Handley Mrs Dickie and Miss Death lost, to Miss Wilson and Mrs Aiken. Mrs Dalgety and Miss H. Burgess lost to Mesdames D. Lupton and Macmillan. Mesdames Whitehead and Hawthorne won from Miss Mathieson and Harvey. Misses V. Death and Bryant halved with Mrs Pepper and Miss Wallis. Mesdames Cory and Davy lost to Mrs Muir and Miss Beer. Mesdames Gibson and D. Hunt halved with Miss A. Train and Mrs Pmv. *'isses A. Willis and D. Mavriek WoR £rom Mrs G. Lupton and Miss J. Train. Mrs McDiarmid and Miss J. Palmer lost to Mesdames Cathie and C. Cleary. Miss B. Bryan and Mrs Pickett lost to Misses J. Train and J. Lupton.
