SECONDARY INDUSTRIES
r J'TIE Governor-General’s message, published on Saturday, eni
phasises the desirability of supporting the secondary industries of the Dominion. There is a good simile provided by the advice to shop in the place in which you live. The presence of local shopping facilities are worth while in that they add to the convenience of life. Local industries, like local shops, provide the convenience of nearness ot the source of supply, they increase the facility with which goods can be supplied, with the advantage that they can be adapted to the use of local necessities. In building up the secondary industries of the country, it must also be remembered, a greater diversity of employment is provided, leading to a more varied development of natural skill, and this provides more people with a wider choice of a career, an advantage not to be despised in a quickly-growing population. These factors merit due regard by purchasers, and the Governor-General’s advice to develop the country’s secondary industries, should therefore not fall on deaf ears.
