AVENUE CLUB annual meeting to-night. The annual meeting of members of the Avenue Swimming Club will be hcl' to-night at 7.30 o’clock at the Victoria Avenue School. ANNUAL REPORT FOR PAST YEAR. At the annual meeting of members of the Gonville Ladies’ Swimming Clut to be held at the club room tonight, the following report on last season’s activities will be presented:— The 1930-31 season was not favoured with the fine warm weather of some previous seasons, but nevertheless the Club had a successful season. The membership was well up to former years and the clubs’ funds, which were in a sound state at the opening ■of the season, remained so till the end. The standard of swimming among club members was high and the club champion, Miss June Summerell, won two events at the district championships and had she competed at the New Zealand Championships would probably havr been hard to beat in the intermediate events. A handsome cup was donated to the Club by Mr. and Mrs. Sewell and will be held by the club champion each year. A carnival was held on February 7, 1931. The weather was favourable and there was a good attendance. If was a great success and returned a small profit, which was donated to the Centre funds. Club races were held on Thursday evening of each week, during the season and the trophies were keenly competed for. The season was brought to a close with a very successful tea and social evening at the Elrick Tea Lounge. Musical, vocal and elocutionary items were given by members. During the evening the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, presented the cups and trophieg to the winners. A word of thanks is due to the Press for the assistance given during the season and also to all who assisted at the carnival and in other ways.
