SPRING BLOOMS

DISPLAY AT MANGAWEKA ST. MARTIN’S BULB SHOW (Own Correspondent). MANGAWEKA, Sept. 28. Fine weather prevailed for the anneal flower show, in aid of the Anglican Church, which was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday. Although the season has not been conducive toward the production of good blooms, some very fine examples were exhibited. There was a good attendance of visitors during the day and some very brisk business was done by the stall-holders. The show was officially opened by Mrs Wallis, widow of the late Bishop Wallis, of Wellington. Mrs Wallis, who was introduced by the Rev. Langston, was accompanied by the Rev. H. Harris and Mrs Harris, of Taihape. “It gives me great pleasure to be again in Mangaweka and although there are not many people here who will remember me, I have always had very happy recollections of your township,” declared Mrs Wallis, in her opening remarks. Proceeding, the speaker said that when she and her late husband first visited Mangaweka they had to ford the river. Mrs Wallis remarked on the excellent display of flowers and congratulated those connected with tho bazaar on their splendid effort and wished them much success. It gave her much pleascre in declaring the show open. The flowers were judged by Mr A. Gibson, of Marton. Tho stewards were: Flowers, Messrs C. Dalgety and L. Weston; decorative, Mrs M. Graham; settling, Mesdames J. Graham and D. Watkins; home industries, Mesdames R. H. %. Guthrie and D. Thane. Stall-holders were: Sewing, Mesdames M. Graham and E. Loye; sweets, Misses Weston. Jarrett and Deighton; fancy, Mes dames Thane, Rowley and O’Callaghan: produce, Mesdames Langston and Jar rett; tea, Miss Zohs and helpers; bra-?, tub, Mesdames Pairman and Dal rymple; Sunday-school, Misses Nicholson, Rodewall, and Johnston.
