The annual report, which was adopted, read as follows: — ‘ ‘ The season 1930-31 was a very short one, the weather being unfavourable, and tne Hawke's Bay earthquakes interfering with mter-cipb matches. During the year the club lost one of its members, Mrs John Ellery, auu members stood in silence in respect for the deceased. Another loss to croquet was also suffered by the death of Mr C. A. £. Ferguson, secretary of the N.Z. Council. We have to again thank Mr Geo. Ellis, the club’s patrons, for his continued interest in the club. Also Mr G. H. Archer, for his valuable assistance, and the caretaker (Mr Hillier) for extra work done during the year. Under the circumstances the past season was a good one, and the club is in a sound financial position. The prospects for the coming season are very bright, several new members taking up tne game, and the lawns being in improved condition.” Election of Officers.—The following were elected: Patron, Mr Geo. There will be a fair yarding of cattle, sheep and pigs. To-day being Dominion Day, the banks will be closed, and the usual rush for “change” will ensue. EARTHQUAKE. Earthquakes have been fairly frequent lately, and many local people felt a queer tremor shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday. There was only a slight shake, but subterranean noises like thunder were somewhat alarming. RANGITIKEI GOLF CLUB. The final of the 1931 Handicap was well contested. W. Pean was 4 up at the end of' the first round, but Q. O. Wilson took the next four holes, and after that a neck and neck struggle ensued. They were all square at the 17th hole, and it was anybody’s game. Both found the rough with their drives, and Dean’s second went into the drain, the penalty giving Wilson the advantage, to win by one stroke.
