The Marine Department advises that on October I the fixed white light at present exhihi'ed from the Red Beacon, 167 deg. 1% cables (approx.) from the front beacon on Tewaewae Point, Bluff Harbour, will be altered to flashing white every one and a-half seconds, thus: Flash, o.ssec. ; eclipse, l.Osec. The above light, and the flashing white light '•n Channel Rocks beacon are in line, bearing 283 deg., and lead about 390 ft clear of Tewaewae Rocks. Vessls using the north channel should keep these lights in line until across the line of the first pair of white leading lights (in line 021 deg.), when a course can be steered to round No. 1 beacon.
