DIAMOND WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. J. P. HORN. A very happy gathering of friends and relations took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Horn, Cornwall Road, Hastings, on Wednesday, August 26, the occasion being the diamond wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Horn. The parents of Mr. Horn arrived in Ne-eon by the sailing ship Prince of Wn’es in the year 1842, while Mrs. Hora’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. An thony, irri/td in the same year in the ship Olympus, also settling in Nelson The couple, who are now well over 80 years of cge. were married in 1871 t»y tho Rev. William Bliss in Nelson, and nlayed ar. important part in tii3 pioneemg work of the early days. Shortly after ihe?r marriage they left for Marlborough where Mr. Horn took up farming ,and remained in that district for thirty ycais, afterward taking up land in tho Shannon district, but only remained there for a few years, eventually retiring from active life to reside in Hastings, where they have earned the respect and esteem from all with whom they come in contact. The only surviving members of Mr. Horn’s family are a brother, Mr. George Horn, of Wellington, and a sister, Mrs. T. Russ, of Stratford. Mrs. Horn’s relatives are Mr. Mark Anthony, of Ashburton; Mrs. T. Drummond, of Nelson; and Mr. Henry Anthony, of Wanganui. The family of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Horn are all in the Hawke’s Bay district—Alfred, of Park Road, Hastings; Mrs. L. F. Cresswel, of Dannevirke; George, of Cornwall Road. Hastings; Raymond, of Vigor Brown Street, Napier; and six grandchildren. Tho Rev. Mr. Nicholls, Baptist minister, of Hastings, presided over a large gathering of friends and relations at afternoon tea, when the toast of the bride and bridegroom was duly honoured.
.In the evening the younger generation continued the celebrations in the time-honoured custom. Tho health of the happy couple is such that they also were able to enter into the festivities till the early hours of the morning.
