PERSONAL. Mr R. M. S. Jones, who has been visiting Ashburton, is expected to return to-day. Mr and Mrs W. Wilson are spending a few days at their leach cottage, Castlecliff. Friends of Mr and Mrs N. Lambert will regret to learn that their little son, Keith is in Whare Ora Hospital, where he underwent an operation for appendicitis. Mr Percy Coyle, who for some years past has held the position of secretary to the New Zealand Licensed Victuallers* Association, has been appointed to succeed the late Mr J. R. Raw as general secretary to the national council of the licensed trade. In the D.I.C. needlework competition, open to competitiors from all parts of the Dominion, Pat Jones, a pupil of Mrs C. W. Ancell, aged ten years, gained third place in the juvenile class (up to 16 years) with her entry, a coloured table centre. In the two sections of the juvenile class there were over a thousand entries. FOOTBALL. TO-DAY’S MATCHES. A Marists team from Wanganui will play a match with Hunter* i lie Thirds at ' Hunterville to-day. Hunterville team is to be selected from: Barnes, Dalziell, Loveridge, Still, Bartlett, Barry, Gordon, Butemcnt, Holford, Hall, Long, Young, O’Brien, Wright. Shaw, Rowe, Wills, C. V right. HUNTERVILLE BOYS’ CLUB. The local Boys’ Club held a successful boxing tournament on Thursday evening before a fair attendance of the public. Each bout was of three rounds of two minutes each, and some good performances were given by the lads. The following officers conducted proceedings: Referee, Mr. R. K. Simpson; judge, Mr. M. Graham; timekeeper. Mr. R. Baker. Details of bouts were as follows:

I. Gibbs v. W. Holfvrd— A fast, hard-hitting bout, with Holford mainly on defence. Gibbs won on a technical knock-out in the second round. H. Shaw v. J. Wills.—Not a very fast display, neither man making use of both hands. Wills showed up jn the final round and gained the decision.

G. Meads v. B. Barnes.—Barnes was considerably lighter than his opponent but showed greater speed. A hardhitting match. Meads being knocked down in the last round. Barnes won on a technical knock-out. F. Jarvis v. M. Wills.—Wills proved too classy for his man. Jarvis was knocked down for the count of four in the second round. Fight stopped in third round, decision going to Wills. R. Gordon v. C. Wright.—Quite an evenlv-matched pair. Gordon stopped a hard one in the abdomen in the second round. Gordon won on a foul in the third round.

D. Young v. P. Horn. —A good pair of boys, both making good use of the ring. Horn used his left to great advantage. The bout ended in a draw. Challenge Match. —L. Whetton v. M. Wills: Whetton won on a teachnical knock-out in the second round.
