r ~|rtlE present low level of prices is having a very detrimental effect upon the realty market. During June, 1480 transfers of properties were registered under the Land Transfer Act, as aganist 2285 transfers during June of last year. For the quarter which ended on June 30, 1931, there were 4368 transfers, as against 7243 in the corresponding quarter of last year. The consideration money involved in these transactions bears a rough relation to the number of transfers registered, the money involved in the June transactions being £1.253,710, as against £2,148,428 in June. 1930, while the quarterly figures arc £3,860,113 in 1931, and £6,680,780. Included in the above figures are transfers effected in consequence of the administration of estates as well as sales resulting from mortgagees’ forecloseure actions. When these transactions are allowed for, the condition of the real estate market must be characterised as one of inactivity.
